Seoul National University Professor Joon Hak Oh won the April "Scientist and
Technologist of the Month Award" for developing chiral organic
optoelectronic materials that advance next-generation optical sensors and
communication technologies. His breakthrough involved introducing
supramolecular chirality concepts to create materials that can precisely detect
circularly and elliptically polarized light without complex external devices,
enabling miniaturization for applications in 3D displays, VR, quantum
computing, and bio-imaging. His work was published in Nature in 2023 and
represents a fusion of basic science and applied technology with significant
industrial potential.
