Institute of Chemical Processes

The Institute of Chemical Processes (ICP) was established within the College of Engineering at Seoul National University with the aim of advancing research, development, and dissemination of chemical process technologies. Founded by faculty members specializing in chemical process engineering, the institute also focuses on training highly skilled professionals and supporting activities necessary for the development of this field.
By consolidating previously scattered research efforts—such as studies on De-NOx catalyst development—under one umbrella, the ICP has played a pivotal role in energizing research activities in chemical process engineering.
In addition, the Center for Chemical Process Engineering Human Resource Development, established within the ICP, plays a significant role in cultivating expert personnel. Supported by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the center operates training programs such as the Chemical Process Development and Engineering Talent Training Course to foster advanced technical professionals in the field.

The institute consists of the following divisions and centers:

  • Process Development Division
Research on petrochemical process development, novel catalytic processes, and separation process technologies.
  • Chemical Materials Division
Development of electronic and information materials, polymer materials, and composite materials.
  • Advanced Process Technology Division
Research on semiconductor processing, bioprocess technology, fine chemical process engineering, and polymer processing technologies.
  • Process Systems and Safety Division
Research on process system design and development, process control technologies, and safety engineering.
  • Energy and Environment Division
Research on alternative energy technologies, energy storage, energy-saving technologies, and pollution prevention processes.
  • Chemical Process Engineering Human Resource Development Center & Operations Division
Dedicated to developing highly trained professionals in the field of chemical process engineering.
